EFI History

Established in 1957, Exceptional Foresters Inc. (EFI) is a private nonprofit corporation located in Shelton, Washington. Bob and Louise Kimbel wanted a better life for their sons than putting them in an institution or keeping them home, out of sight. With other parents with similar circumstances, they established Exceptional Foresters Inc. to provide work opportunities for their sons. The work began in the forest with a Christmas tree farm and selling fire wood. Over the years additional opportunities were created for both men and women. EFI currently provides residential and vocational services to adults with disabilities by supporting them in the community.
